In October, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it would implement the Haitian Family Reunification Parole Program (HFRPP) beginning in early 2015. The program will help unify families and promote safe, legal and orderly migration from Haiti.

In connection with this announcement, USCIS has recently advised that families should be aware of immigration scams.  The program will not be open to applicants until next year, but scammers may trick individuals into paying money, saying they can help them apply for relief. Haitian families should be aware that anyone who may be eligible for consideration under the program will be contacted in writing with further information.  USCIS will also be posting announcements and notifying the Haitian community once details are available.

Because of this and other types of immigration scams that are out there, it is important to always consult with a reputable, licensed immigration attorney.  Furthermore, please be reminded not to pay anyone alleging to be an immigration professional before you have verified his or her credentials. For more information, please contact our office and read the USCIS flyer on avoiding immigration scams.
